If you want to know what gadgets will appear on everyday cars in 10 years’ time, look at the S-Class. The Mercedes’ reputation for cutting-edge tech is unparalleled, and when you consider it also has a supremely comfortable ride, a classy interior, incredible refinement and reasonable running costs, it’s incredibly hard to fault. It’s perhaps not the most dynamic car in its class, but then you don’t buy a limo for hooning down a B-road. Read More »

If you must have a Kuga in your life, Ford certainly has an engine option to suit. There's one petrol, three diesels (one of which is a mild hybrid) and two proper hybrids - one conventional, one plug-in. Factor in the four-wheel-drive versions available with some and picking the right Kuga rapidly turns into a brain-teaser. Ford justifies offering all this because the Kuga is now its ‘heartland’ car. Suzuki Across 2021 long-term review

It allows for an electric-only range of 46 miles on the WLTP test cycle (so it slots into the 6% BIK tax bracket), but I’m getting closer to 36 miles out in the real world. That’s not bad at all. The charging time is 2.5 hours from a wallbox; I don’t have one of those at home, but a battery charge Read More »

The abrupt departure of Julian Thomson from Jaguar’s biggest design job is both surprising and predictable. When in 2019 he finally took the design director’s appointment, succeeding Ian Callum with whom he had served for two decades as a loyal, willing and slightly maverick lieutenant, Thomson seemed at last to be getting his just deserts – the chance to accelerate and even to radicalise the great work the pair had been doing together. But at Read More »
