INDIANAPOLIS, In. – Race driver JR Hildebrand is an Indianapolis 500 celebrity, but last week on his way to Indy he was just another repair job at Alex’s Radiator and Auto Repair in Goodland, Kansas. Well, not just any repair job. Hildebrand, a true car guy who’s just as comfortable driving his bagged 1960 Cadillac Coupe de Ville as he is a 230-mile-per-hour Dallara IndyCar, decided to pull the grand old ride out of storage Read More »

Ford teases Ranger Raptor Special Edition in Old West showdown

Posted in REVIEWS on May 21, 2021

Ford has released a teaser video for an upcoming Ranger Raptor Special Edition, but it's a bit more than just your typical poorly lit teaser video. The premise for the ruggified Ranger promo is an Old West showdown, á la "High Noon" or the Sergio Leone classic "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly." In Ford's case, they've renamed it "The Good, The Bad, and the Bad-R.S.E." Cheeky. The video mixes the spaghetti western theme Read More »

2021 Jaguar F-Pace First Drive Review | A jam-packed update with a lot to like

Posted in REVIEWS on May 21, 2021

As one of Jaguar’s top-selling models, the F-Pace serves as an unofficial ambassador for the brand’s lineup as a whole. Its rather dramatic 2021-model-year makeover coincides with an effort by Jaguar (and sister brand Land Rover) to significantly overhaul its product offerings in an attempt to adjust to changing customer tastes. Consequently, the list of updates to the 2021 F-Pace reads like what you’d expect from a complete redesign, rather than a mere mid-cycle refresh. Read More »

Top 10 best electric cars for towing

Posted in CAR NEWS on May 21, 2021

With their instant torque from powerful electric motors, EVs should make perfect tow cars for those who like to couple up a caravan or tack on a trailer. Yet until recently, many battery-powered models weren’t rated to tow, a combination of their short ranges being rendered almost useless by the efforts of hauling a heavy load and their already hefty kerb weights resulting in a towing limit so low as to be virtually useless. Peugeot 2008

The 129bhp model we tried was in GT Line trim, near the top of the 2008 ladder and quite classy inside, with some faux-leather and funky contrast stitching, with silvered plastics used sparingly enough that you can almost be convinced they’re actual chrome.  Passenger space is reasonable if not quite outstanding. You should be able to fit four adults in the 2008 without trying too hard, and I doubt those sat in the back would feel Read More »

Fiat 500 Electric Action 2021 UK review

In an era when you can get illuminated belt buckles on a car (take a bow, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class), the new Fiat 500 Electric does without a radio. Let that sink in for a moment. In Action trim, admittedly the base level, you have to plug in your phone to listen to any music. Fiat isn’t the first to tap into this, but for a car so focused on style and youthful appeal, it says something Read More »

Vauxhall Mokka

As its old General Motors-era models have been replaced by new PSA-related cars, Vauxhall has had little choice but to accept pretty wide-reaching change to its various cars over the past few years. And with our road test subject this week, it is positively embracing it. The second-generation Mokka may still be a compact crossover hatchback, but it’s such a different prospect from the car it replaces that you wonder if Mokka owners will even Read More »

Buy them before we do: second-hand picks for 21 May

Is there sense in buying ‘orphan motors’, cars that were generally unloved when new and on which the market has since turned its back? We’ve combed the classifieds and found five of them, starting with this, the Ford Ecosport of 2014-18. It’s a compact SUV with, bizarrely, a spare wheel attached to the tailgate that makes it look like it’s about to flip backwards. At its launch, reviewers were largely united in condemning the Ecosport’s Read More »
